Sandown FC 1st 0 v Cowes Sports FC Reserves 5
Sat 3rd October
Sandown FC 1st v Cowes Sports FC Res, Sat 3 October 2020 – match report
After heavy rain for 2 days the pitch at the Academy was looking OK, not the best we have seen, but weather considered playable.
We felt this was going to be our toughest test so far this season knowing that Cowes Sports FC Reserves would be well-drilled, organised and fielding some experienced players and we weren’t wrong.
Throughout the 90 minutes we played some really good football and in the first 45 minutes made 3 good chances that we failed to convert. We battled well and showed some true grit for such a young side, but we could not match the clinical finishing that Cowes produced.
Give Cowes credit, they played the long ball well and with several senior players at the back and up top they were at times were very good and hard to deal with.
Cowes scored 5 goals across the 90 minutes, and all were of high quality or well worked, so we can’t complain, I think we could have done more to stop a couple of them, but 3 of their goals were unstoppable. It should also show us how important it is to convert chances when we get them.
Louis Riley was class in goal again making some vital saves, Jamie Hanmore again had a great game at full back and Sam Yates had his best game so far. Up top Lee Jones was asked to play a number 10 role which he did well and Jordie and Matt did well in holding roles, but the MOTM went to Charlie Page who made some very crucial tackles when a goal looked inevitable.
DOTD goes to Josh Field who received a call during the team talk from “His Girl” – we still don’t know what she wanted.
Well played to Cowes, a deserved win and if they play like that every week they will upset a few teams at the top of the league.
UTS – We go again
