Seaview FC 1st v Sandown FC 1st, pre-season friendly, Sat 29 Aug 2020 – match report

Our penultimate pre season warm up match saw us travel with the reserves to Seaview for a double header.

With conditions ideal for football we set up with several changes from our last game. Sonny, Jack and Brad went back to the A Team’s visit to West Wight and we brought in a trialist into the back 4.

The first 45 minutes was pretty even between the two sides in the middle of the park, although there was never any real threat on our goal. At the other end it was a different matter, as again we were knocking on their door on many occasions but the final ball would not find the net.

Moments of note in the first half were two Penalties, one for each side, both of which were saved. That said perseverance rewarded us in the 42nd minutes when Jordie Cook scored with a header.

HT 0 – 1

The second half started and finished with SFC on the front foot. Through the second 45 minutes the pace, movement and fitness was far superior to Seaview and some great football from the whole team saw a further four goals hit the net. Goals from Ellery Snow, Ben Field, Josh Field and a second from Jordie Cook sealed the much deserved win.

FT 0 – 5

MOTM was Louis Riley who had a great game in goal and made some really good saves (including a penalty)

DOTD was originally awarded to Sam Yates for coming off for shin pain after Matty Oatley was sliced in half by a high tackle and carried on, HOWEVER, after many complaints from the team (sorry Yatesy supporters) the decision went to VAR who are still in deliberation whether Benevolent Ben Field should get it for his kind gesture of passing to the Seaview keeper at the penalty. Watch this space.

After the match 35 members of the club gathered for a post match bank holiday gathering of food and a few beers in what turned out to be a relaxed quiet evening.
